The text The Language of Ionica describes the use of symbols as a language. The author writes about the growth of Ionica from the time of cavemen to modern times.
The different elements are described:
(a) REAL: natural forms
(b) SYNTHETIC: ideal archetypes
(c) CODED: information
(d) ABSTRACT: digital abstraction
(e) SUBCONSCIOUS: mind/dreams
(f) METAPHYSICAL: energy
"These elements are the roots of the iconic language,"
The part that surprised me the most was when the author talked about the use of a grammatical system. For some reason, I thought there was no grammar system and everyone who used symbols as a form of language talked like cavemen. Now, I know differently.

Even symbols can need grammar because they need systems to get meanings acrossed, thus grammar. I love how it showed the development of grammar throughout time.
I agree with the idea about needing some sort of grammar even though there are symbols because you need to have a way to describe those symbols and meaning for those symbols. Having symbols as a form of communication is not really that far fetched because technically our own alphabet is symbols for letters and sounds.
I guess I never really thought about it but, symbols can have a grammar systems too! This article makes me think of some Asian languages which use symbols...just like our own language, I'm sure there is a grammatical system for their language as well.
this was really neat. I liked that it showed development through time.
When looked at simply as an underlying system of meaning to our systems of language, grammar can manifest itself in a literally infinite number of ways.
I never thought about given symbols grammar because the symbol stands for something else so why give it some sort of definition and grammar. This a good way change though.
There is always a grammar system in a language. The grammar cannot be inflected if the language uses symbols because the symbols would not allow for changes required to show the function in the sentence. The grammar could easily be based on placement like English. In truth, inonica is a lot like other languages in that other languages use symbols too. Letters are symbols.

I think every language no matter whether they use words or symbols must have some form of grammatical rules. It would be hard to communicate or understand others if there is no structure to the language. It is interesting to see a language that uses symbols as their form of language.
The development through time was very interesting. Some sort of grammar is usually needed to understand the ideas that are being conveyed. some languages can be very difficult to understand without the knowledge of the grammar system.
I also assumed that symbols did not need grammar. But I thought this article was very interesting.
Symbols are an effective way of learning. 200 years ago, when most people were illiterate, people learned concepts and ideas through symbols. Whether grammar was involved is another story. It may have been, but I am unaware of it. Symbolism does not require grammar because it engenders ideas without the need for spoken/written language.
Any language follows some system of grammar, despite how simple or complex they are.My problem is that I was somewhat difficult for me to follow. However, as most systems, this language, developed over time, which only reinforces that it is real.
I did not know this information, it is very helpful. I have never heard that symbols can be its own language. Symbols have been used as a precursor to written language so I guess it only makes sense.
I thought this article was really interesting and liked how it showed the progress over time. I have heard of using symbols for language but the article helped me understand it better.
Just as our symbols, letters, need grammar the picture symbols require their own grammar. If you think about it the presence of grammar, even then, makes sense. Grammar is more than just writing in a correct way, it expresses meaning.
I guess it just makes sense that all languages, symbols or not, need a grammar system. You can't just throw a bunch of symbols out there and assume the communication will happen, there has to be some sort of structure.
