Synchron Eyes

Hello! Imagine you're a teacher. What do you think about Synchron Eyes? What if you're a student???

This blog response is homework for next Monday, and the topic refers back to "technology in the classroom" which we've dealt with earlier.

As a teacher I could see myself really liking this product. Not having to worry about what my students were doing while I was trying to teach - and also being able to call them out on being on the wrong sites would be amazing. However, as a student, I could see myself being very frustrated with the program.

I think that this product is a good idea. As a teacher, you should be in complete control of the classroom and often you lose students' attention to computers. However, using this product, allows the teacher to be in complete control and make sure the students are on topic and doing what they are supposed to be doing. I could see myself using this product.

Being a student, I find this product to be somewhat intrusive and unnecessary. If the teacher does not have to ability to keep the attention of the students and does not have the ability to control his or her own classroom, then that is his or her problem, not mine. Also, as a teacher, I would more than likely not use it because the students should know that they need to be paying attention and anything they miss will only come back badly on them.

As a teacher I think Synchron Eyes would be very helpful in teaching younger students. Being in control of the students' screens would help them pay better attention to the lesson. However, as an older student, I think it would make me feel like the teacher didn't trust me and therefore I would be distracted by the fact that my screen always read "Keep your eyes to the front!". If I taught high school students I would not use the Synchron Eyes because it would tell my students that I did not trust them to pay attention.

I kind of like Synchron Eyes. Its a good way for students to stay on track. Teachers have more control over what their students should be doing, that is the assignment at hand. In this technological age, classrooms are becoming greater equipped with computers and it may cause a distraction from learning. Synchron eyes is a great way for teachers to maintain a sense of discipline, control, and efficiency within their classroom environment.

Synchron Eyes is clearly an excellent peice of software that is a teacher's dream. Especally if the teacher conducts class in a computer lab. The paranoia that students hardly ever pay attention in computer labs can be curved because students fear being called out and embarrassed for bad behavior. This program also forces students to give the teacher their undivided attention as teachers control what students can see on the computer screen. This software is really revolutionary.

I agree with what Amy wrote. It would be a very useful tool if you are dealing with younger students. But I think that it can be counterproductive if used with older ones. I look at it kind of like how I see training wheels. They are great while you are learning how to ride but at some point you have to take them off because you don’t need them anymore. The goal should not be to make sure that the person never falls over but to make it so that they have the ability to stand up on their own.

I think this software is great! I could see myself using this as a teacher. It's a great tool for classroom management. As a teacher, I won't have to scramble around the classroom trying to keep students off of other websites. I can monitor students from my computer. I can also use this software to keep my students on task with the assignment. It's a great way to teach students to focus on classroom work.

I believe that the program could be useful for a younger audience. However, using this with middle schoolers or high schoolers might create more frustration than its worth. If teenagers are aware that their teacher has this control over them they will automatically sense that they are not trusted and will most likely come to resent the teacher. Students want to be trusted, and shouldn't teachers want to trust their student's without spying? I think that this tool could be useful if a teacher is having problems with their class on the computers. The program might be better used as a resource when students have showed that they can't be trusted.

I could see using this software. It seems like a very useful tool for a teacher, and from personal experience some professors should use this as well. Some students whether in college or grade school just do not pay attention or show any respect for their instructors. Now if I was the instructor of said class, I would just kick them out of the class if they continued to disobey the rules, but some professors aren't as firm on the rules as I am.

I think the software would be beneficial for a teacher and it would be software I would be interested in as a teacher. It would be very efficient to monitor the class. I know some may think that students should be able to stay on task themselves, but I know as a student it is very easy to check my e-mail, read the news, etc when I should be doing something else.

I think this would be VERY helpful in a computer lab environment! Especially with younger students who may tend to loose focus more easily!

I think this product is a very interesting teaching tool. I feel that it would make the teachers job easier to do and the children will enjoy the use of technology. It is a quick and easy way to teach a lesson and asses what the students have learned. It is also good that the teacher can monitor what the students are doing. The only down side that I find with this product is the fact that it is taking over the teachers job. It also takes away the interaction between students and teachers. It will take a lot of time and effort to teach students how to use the program and there is sure to be daily problems with the software and technology. I probably wouldn't use this product very much because I like to teach my own lessons and interact with the students on more of a personal, human level. I don't want computers taking over my job.

As a teacher I think that Synchron Eyes is a great way to make sure that teachers can monitor what students are doing on the computers and make sure that they are paying attention. As a student I don't like it because I would like to have access to my computer.

I have to say that I agree with what some of the others are saying. For younger children who are easily distracted, this is a great tool. I can see where children are not used to being in a class setting, and can find it difficult to maintain focus on one subject. As for using it with high school students, I feel that you should leave them with the responsibility to pay attention. This is an age where these youth should be given the ability to make choices concerning their future, one of these being the choice to put the effort into paying attention to the teacher.

I think it's a good tool to see what your students are doing, to make sure they are on task, but locking their computers? After a certain age I think that's a little degrading.
